Cosmetic surgery
So-called “aesthetic medicine” or “cosmetic surgery” procedures are not reimbursed by French national health insurance (Assurance Maladie) or by your mutuelle (top-up health insurance).
Reconstructive surgery
The surgeon is contracted with French Social Security (Sécurité Sociale) in Sector 2, not OPTAM-registered . He sets his own fees. They are higher than the Assurance Maladie reimbursement rate. Reimbursement of these fees depends on the policy you have taken out with your mutuelle. In all cases, fees are set with “tact et mesure” (with tact and moderation, as French medical ethics require).
