Nose

29 questions
How long does the result of a non-surgical rhinoplasty last?

8 to 12 months. Hyaluronic acid is gradually absorbed; a new session maintains the result.

Read the page Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose filler)
Can a bump on the nose be removed without surgery?

No, it can only be camouflaged. A small bump is softened by filling above and below it; a more pronounced bump calls for surgical rhinoplasty.

Read the page Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose filler)
Can the tip of the nose be lifted with filler?

Yes, moderately, with an injection at the base of the columella, between the nose and the lip.

Read the page Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose filler)
Can filler correct a flaw after a rhinoplasty?

Yes, from 1 month after the operation, for a small hollow or slight asymmetry. It does not replace a revision rhinoplasty.

Read the page Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose filler)
Is non-surgical rhinoplasty dangerous?

It is safe when carried out by a doctor who knows the anatomy of the nose. The most feared risk, blockage of a blood vessel, is rare; it is treated as an emergency with hyaluronidase, combined with cortisone and aspirin.

Read the page Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose filler)
Can a non-surgical rhinoplasty be reversed?

Yes. A result you are not happy with can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

Read the page Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose filler)
Why is rhinoplasty said to be one of the most difficult operations?

The nose combines a function, breathing, with a visible shape at the centre of the face, where every millimetre counts. The result evolves over a year as it heals and has to be anticipated during the operation. This is why it requires specific training and practice.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
How do I choose a surgeon for a rhinoplasty?

Check that the surgeon is qualified in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and performs rhinoplasty regularly, both primary and revision. Ask to see before and after photos and take the time for two consultations. Dr Médard de Chardon is a member of the Rhinoplasty Society of Europe.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
From what age can you have a rhinoplasty?

From 16, once the nose has finished growing; a minor is seen with the consent of both parents.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
What is preservation rhinoplasty?

It is a technique that keeps the natural structures of the nose instead of removing and then rebuilding them. The hump is lowered rather than cut away, and the tip is reshaped with sutures. The bridge of the nose keeps a natural appearance and its strength.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
What is the advantage of ultrasonic rhinoplasty?

The bones are shaped by ultrasound, without hammer or chisel, which allows more precise movements. The neighbouring soft tissues are spared, which reduces bruising and swelling. See the comparison: ultrasonic or traditional rhinoplasty.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
How should I prepare for a rhinoplasty?

Smoking is stopped 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after the operation. Aspirin, anti-inflammatories and certain food supplements (omega-3, vitamin E, ginger, ginkgo) are stopped at least 15 days before, in agreement with your GP. For day surgery, someone must accompany you on the journey home and stay with you the first night.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
Is nasal packing needed after a rhinoplasty?

No, in more than 95% of cases at Dr Médard de Chardon’s practice. Dissolvable internal sutures replace packing: the patient breathes through the nose on waking. A nasal splint is worn for 7 to 10 days.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
What should I do in the first few days after a rhinoplasty?

Limit your activities, sleep with your head raised (two pillows) and apply cold to the cheeks and around the eyes; avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatories. Bruising disappears in 7 to 10 days and can be covered with make-up from day 3 or 4.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
What precautions should I take after a rhinoplasty?

No glasses for 1 month if the nasal bones have been altered, no forceful nose-blowing for 1 month, SPF 50 sunscreen and no direct sun exposure for 2 to 3 months. Gentle exercise resumes from 15 days, swimming after 6 weeks, contact sports and all sports at 3 months; a long-haul flight should be postponed by 2 weeks if possible.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
When is the result of a rhinoplasty final?

The result is visible when the splint is removed, clear at 2 months and final at 1 year, once the swelling of the tip has gone. It is long-lasting; the nose then ages with the rest of the face.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
Can a nose that has already been operated on be operated on again?

Yes, this is revision (secondary) rhinoplasty, possible at least 6 months after the first operation, ideally 1 year. It often uses cartilage grafts to rebuild the framework. Dr Médard de Chardon also operates on noses previously operated on by other surgeons.

Read the page Rhinoplasty
What is the difference between septoplasty and rhinoplasty?

Septoplasty straightens the septum inside the nose to improve breathing, without changing its shape. Rhinoplasty changes the shape of the nose. The two can be combined: this is called rhinoseptoplasty.

Read the page Functional rhinoplasty
Can breathing and the shape of the nose be corrected at the same time?

Yes. Septoplasty, turbinoplasty or valve surgery can be performed at the same time as a cosmetic rhinoplasty. The functional part is covered and, in some cases, so is the correction of the shape of the nose, with prior approval.

Read the page Functional rhinoplasty
Is nasal packing needed after a septoplasty?

No, in more than 95% of cases at Dr Médard de Chardon’s practice: dissolvable internal sutures replace packing and the patient breathes through the nose on waking.

Read the page Functional rhinoplasty
Why is my nose blocked on one side and then the other?

A nose blocked alternately on each side points to enlarged turbinates; a permanently blocked nose points rather to a deviated septum. Examining the nose at the consultation identifies the cause.

Read the page Functional rhinoplasty
The sides of my nose collapse when I breathe in: can this be operated on?

Yes. This collapse of the sides of the nose (alar collapse) reflects a weakened external nasal valve. It is corrected with cartilage grafts that strengthen or widen the walls of the nose.

Read the page Functional rhinoplasty
When can a rhinoplasty be redone?

At least 6 months after the first operation, ideally 1 year after, to allow the swelling to go down and the tissues to heal. A touch-up can be considered from 6 months.

Read the page Revision rhinoplasty
Touch-up or revision rhinoplasty: what is the difference?

A touch-up corrects a minor flaw in 15 to 45 minutes; it can sometimes be done by hyaluronic acid injection. A revision rhinoplasty is a genuine second rhinoplasty, lasting 1 to 4 hours.

Read the page Revision rhinoplasty
Can a nose operated on by another surgeon be revised?

Yes. The operation reports from the previous procedures then need to be obtained and, if possible, photos from before the first rhinoplasty.

Read the page Revision rhinoplasty
Why are cartilage grafts often needed for a revision rhinoplasty?

The first operation has often reduced or moved the cartilages of the nose. To rebuild its framework and support the tip, the surgeon uses cartilage taken from the ear or a rib.

Read the page Revision rhinoplasty
What is a pollybeak and how is it treated?

It is excess volume just above the tip of the nose (the supratip), which gives a bird’s-beak appearance in profile, either permanently or only when smiling. It most often comes from a septal edge left too high, tip cartilages that are too large, a tip that droops for lack of support, thick skin that does not retract well, or a hump that was over-resected. Treatment depends on the cause: lowering the septum, reducing the tip cartilages, a columellar strut to lift the tip, corticosteroid injections followed by careful defatting for thick skin, or filling the over-resected area with hyaluronic acid, fascia-wrapped cartilage (DCF), an acellular dermal matrix (ADM) graft or fat grafting (lipofilling).

Read the page Revision rhinoplasty
Can you breathe better after a revision rhinoplasty?

Yes, breathing difficulty that appears after a first rhinoplasty is one of the reasons for revision: nasal valves, septum, turbinates. This functional part can be covered by the Assurance Maladie, with prior approval.

Read the page Revision rhinoplasty
Can an injection be enough instead of a revision rhinoplasty?

Sometimes, for a small dip or a slight asymmetry: non-surgical rhinoplasty corrects these flaws in 15 minutes, from €350, with a result that lasts 8 to 12 months. It does not replace a revision rhinoplasty.

Breasts

139 questions
From what age can you have breast surgery?

Breast augmentation is performed on adult women. Breast reduction and correction of tuberous breasts are most often carried out from the age of 18, once the breasts have finished developing.

Read the page Breasts
Can you breastfeed after a breast augmentation?

Yes, breastfeeding remains possible in the vast majority of cases after breast augmentation with implants, whatever the incision used.

Read the page Breasts
Do breast implants need replacing every 10 years?

No, not as a matter of routine. A silicone gel implant lasts 12 to 15 years on average; if imaging shows no rupture and the result is still satisfactory, regular monitoring is enough.

Read the page Breasts
Do breast implants interfere with mammograms?

No, mammograms are still possible with breast implants; simply tell the radiologist that you have them, and the views will be adapted.

Read the page Breasts
Where do the consultation and the operation for breast surgery take place?

Consultations are held at the practice, 101 rue d’Antibes in Cannes, Monday to Friday. Operations take place at Clinique Oxford in Cannes.

Read the page Breasts
What is the best breast implant?

There is no best implant in absolute terms. The shape (round or ergonomic), the profile and the volume are chosen according to the patient’s build, measurements and wishes, after trial sizers and a 3D simulation.

Read the page Breast augmentation
Implant in front of or behind the muscle?

In front of the muscle, the implant moves naturally but is more visible in a slim woman; behind the muscle, it is better disguised. Dr Médard de Chardon most often uses the dual plane position, which combines the advantages of both.

Read the page Breast augmentation
What scar does breast augmentation leave?

Three scars are possible: in the armpit (endoscopic approach), along the lower edge of the areola, or in the fold under the breast. The choice depends on your anatomy and your preference; the scars reach their final appearance at 12 months.

Read the page Breast augmentation
Can you enlarge your breasts without implants?

Yes, with lipofilling: the patient’s own fat is harvested by liposuction and then re-injected into the breasts. The gain is about one cup size per session and requires sufficient fat reserves. See breast augmentation without implants.

Read the page Breast augmentation
How many cup sizes can you gain with breast fat transfer?

About one cup size per session, because about 60% of the injected fat is retained. For a larger gain, a second session can be scheduled, or a breast augmentation with implants can be considered.

Read the page Breast fat transfer
Is the result of breast fat transfer permanent?

Yes, the fat that has taken is permanent; the result is stable at 3 months. The volume of the breasts then changes with your weight, like the rest of the body.

Read the page Breast fat transfer
Where is the fat taken from for breast fat transfer?

The fat is harvested by gentle liposuction from the areas where there is excess, most often the abdomen, hips or thighs. The figure is slimmed at the same time.

Read the page Breast fat transfer
Do you need to wear a bra after breast fat transfer?

No, no bra is needed. A compression panty is worn for 2 to 4 weeks over the liposuction areas.

Read the page Breast fat transfer
Does breast fat transfer interfere with breast screening?

No. Imaging is done before surgery and then afterwards, at 1 year. Calcifications related to healing may appear, as after any breast surgery; the radiologist can tell them apart from those of a cancer.

Read the page Breast fat transfer
Can breast fat transfer be combined with implants?

Yes, this is composite breast augmentation. The fat conceals the edges of the implant, makes it less palpable, corrects an asymmetry or fills the cleavage.

Read the page Breast fat transfer
Explantation, explant surgery, implant removal: is it the same operation?

Yes. These terms all refer to removing breast implants without replacing them. “Explantation” is the medical term; “explant surgery” and “implant removal” are the terms in everyday use.

Read the page Implant removal
Do implants have to be replaced after they are removed?

No. Removal can be permanent, and the breasts then return to the volume of the gland. A breast lift or fat transfer can be combined to improve their shape or volume.

Read the page Implant removal
Will my breasts sag after implant removal?

It depends on the volume of the implants, how long they have been in place and the quality of the skin. The skin partly retracts over 3 to 6 months; if the breast still sags, a breast lift raises it, at the same time or later.

Read the page Implant removal
Should the capsule be removed with the implant?

Not always. Total capsulectomy is indicated for capsular contracture, a thickened capsule or rupture; en bloc capsulectomy if BIA-ALCL is suspected or confirmed. A thin, healthy capsule can be left in place.

Read the page Implant removal
Should macrotextured implants that cause no symptoms be removed?

The ANSM does not recommend preventive removal of macrotextured implants without symptoms; regular examination is enough. Swelling, pain or a lump calls for a prompt consultation. PIP implants are the exception: their preventive removal is recommended.

Read the page Implant removal
Do breast implants need to be replaced every 10 years?

No. A silicone gel implant lasts 12 to 15 years on average; as long as it is intact and you are happy with the result, a clinical check-up and imaging every two years are enough.

Read the page Implant replacement
How long does a breast implant last?

On average 12 to 15 years for a silicone gel implant. This is not an expiry date: some last much longer, others rupture sooner.

Read the page Implant replacement
How can I tell if my breast implant has ruptured?

Most often a rupture gives no sign and is found on the routine surveillance ultrasound, supplemented by an MRI if needed. A change in the breast, a lump or pain should prompt a consultation.

Read the page Implant replacement
Is a ruptured implant dangerous?

A rupture is not a life-threatening emergency, but it justifies replacement. The cohesive gel usually stays contained within the capsule; if it escapes, it can migrate into the breast or towards the armpit.

Read the page Implant replacement
Can you change size when implants are replaced?

Yes, to a larger or smaller volume. A large reduction in volume may require a breast lift at the same time.

Read the page Implant replacement
Can implants be replaced through the same scar?

Usually yes, through the scar from the first operation. An en bloc capsulectomy or a correction of the fold may require a scar under the breast.

Read the page Implant replacement
What is the difference between mastopexy and a breast lift?

There is none: mastopexy is the medical term, breast lift the everyday term. It is also called correction of breast ptosis. All three refer to the procedure that raises sagging breasts.

Read the page Breast lift
Can breasts be lifted without a scar?

Only in cases of minor ptosis with insufficient volume: breast implants alone can then correct the sagging, without a lift scar. As soon as the nipple is below the fold, the excess skin has to be removed, which leaves scars whose length depends on the degree of ptosis.

Read the page Breast lift
Can mastopexy be combined with implants?

Yes, when the breasts are sagging and have emptied. The mastopexy raises and reshapes the breast, and the implant fills the upper breast and the cleavage. Both are done during the same operation.

Read the page Breast lift
Can mastopexy be combined with fat transfer?

Yes, when the breasts are sagging and the cleavage is empty, but an implant is not wanted. The fat is harvested by liposuction, purified and then reinjected into the upper breast during the mastopexy. The gain in volume is moderate: about 60% of the reinjected fat is permanently retained.

Read the page Breast lift
How long does the result of a breast lift last?

The result is final at 1 year and long-lasting. The breasts continue to age: age, a pregnancy or a significant change in weight can make them sag again in part.

Read the page Breast lift
Can you breastfeed after a mastopexy?

Breastfeeding usually remains possible, because the gland is reshaped without being removed and the areola stays connected to the gland.

Read the page Breast lift
Should you wait until you have finished having children before a breast lift?

It is preferable: a pregnancy and breastfeeding after a mastopexy can change the volume, make the breasts sag partially and then require a touch-up. The operation is ideally done when your weight is stable.

Read the page Breast lift
Should breast reconstruction be done at the same time as the mastectomy?

It is not compulsory. Reconstruction can be immediate, during the mastectomy, or delayed, later on; the choice depends on the cancer treatment, radiotherapy and your wishes.

Read the page Breast reconstruction
How many operations should I expect for breast reconstruction?

At least three on average: reconstruction of the breast, matching of the other breast, then areola and nipple. They are at least 6 months apart, i.e. 18 to 24 months in total.

Read the page Breast reconstruction
Breast reconstruction with an implant or with my own tissue: which should I choose?

Your own tissue usually gives a breast that feels more natural and ages like the other breast, at the cost of a donor-site scar. An implant avoids this donor site but needs monitoring. The choice is made at the consultation, according to your situation.

Read the page Breast reconstruction
Can the breast be reconstructed after radiotherapy?

Yes. After radiotherapy, reconstruction with your own tissue (latissimus dorsi, DIEP) or fat transfer (lipofilling) is often preferred.

Read the page Breast reconstruction
Can the nipple be reconstructed after a mastectomy?

Yes, this is generally the last step: a graft of part of the other nipple or a local flap, a skin graft for the areola, then dermopigmentation for the colour.

Read the page Breast reconstruction
Does breast reconstruction interfere with cancer monitoring?

No: monitoring continues according to your oncology team’s protocol; tell the radiologist about your reconstruction.

Read the page Breast reconstruction
Is it too late for reconstruction several years after the mastectomy?

No, delayed reconstruction is possible several years after the mastectomy.

Read the page Breast reconstruction
What scars after a breast reduction?

Most often a T-shaped scar: around the areola, vertical and in the fold under the breast. For moderate hypertrophy, the scar in the fold can be avoided. The scars are final at 1 year.

Read the page Breast reduction
Is the result of a breast reduction permanent?

Yes: the shape and volume are stable at 3 months, in the absence of pregnancy or significant weight change. The breasts then continue to change naturally over the years.

Read the page Breast reduction
From what age can you have a breast reduction?

Once breast growth is complete, most often from the age of 18. After a pregnancy, you should wait at least 6 months.

Read the page Breast reduction
Should you lose weight before a breast reduction?

If you are overweight, it is better to lose weight first and wait until your weight has been stable for 6 months, so that the result remains stable.

Read the page Breast reduction
Can you breastfeed after a breast reduction?

Breastfeeding often remains possible, but it may be reduced, because part of the gland is removed.

Can exercise or a diet get rid of gynaecomastia?

They reduce the fatty part (adipomastia), but not the mammary gland. Glandular gynaecomastia only goes away with surgery.

Read the page Gynaecomastia
Is liposuction enough to treat gynaecomastia?

Yes, if the chest is mainly fatty. If the gland is involved, it has to be removed through a short scar below the areola, in addition to liposuction.

Read the page Gynaecomastia
Are gynaecomastia surgery scars visible?

Not very: without a sagging chest, the scar is short, located below the areola, below the breast or along its outer edge; liposuction leaves only millimetre-sized scars. The scars are final at 1 year.

Read the page Gynaecomastia
Can gynaecomastia come back?

Rarely, if the gland has been removed. Weight gain can bring back the fatty part; a hormonal cause or certain substances (anabolic steroids) can restart growth of the gland.

Read the page Gynaecomastia
From what age can gynaecomastia be operated on?

After the end of puberty, as adolescent gynaecomastia often regresses on its own.

Read the page Gynaecomastia
Is an inverted nipple serious?

Usually not: the primary form, present since puberty, is harmless. A nipple that has recently started to turn inwards, especially on one side only, should however be seen by a doctor, as it may reveal a breast condition.

Read the page Inverted nipples
Is the scar from inverted nipple correction visible?

Very little: the incision is about 1 cm long below the nipple and the scar becomes almost invisible.

Read the page Inverted nipples
Can I breastfeed after inverted nipple correction?

It depends on how far the milk ducts are released. If the release is partial, breastfeeding may remain possible; if it is total, it is no longer possible.

Read the page Inverted nipples
Can a corrected inverted nipple turn inwards again?

Slight retraction is normal in the weeks after surgery: that is why the nipple is overcorrected. The result is final at 3 months; recurrence remains possible, more often after a partial release of the ducts.

Read the page Inverted nipples
Can an inverted nipple be corrected without surgery?

Suction devices worn for several hours a day can bring out a mildly inverted nipple, often with a temporary result. Surgery is the only lasting treatment for marked forms.

Read the page Inverted nipples
Can men have surgery for an inverted nipple?

Yes, the technique is the same. The examination also looks for gynaecomastia, which can be corrected during the same operation.

At what age can Poland syndrome be operated on?

In women, after breast development is complete, around the age of 18. In men, once growth has finished, around 16–17, after a thorough assessment.

Read the page Poland syndrome
Is Poland syndrome hereditary?

Very rarely: the vast majority of cases are isolated, with no family history. A few familial cases have been described, but the risk of passing it on to children remains very low.

Read the page Poland syndrome
How many operations are needed for Poland syndrome?

One is often enough for moderate forms in women (implant and fat transfer). Severe forms, and fat transfer to the chest in men, require several sessions, usually 6 months apart.

Read the page Poland syndrome
Why are several fat transfer sessions needed for Poland syndrome?

About 60% of the injected fat is retained; too much cannot be injected at once without the risk that it will not take. The volume is therefore built up in stages, until a stable result is reached.

Read the page Poland syndrome
Are implants placed for Poland syndrome for life?

No: a silicone gel implant lasts 12 to 15 years on average. It is monitored by imaging and is only changed if it ruptures or if the result is no longer satisfactory.

Read the page Poland syndrome
Can a man have surgery for Poland syndrome?

Yes. Fat transfer to the chest gradually recreates the relief of the missing pectoral muscle; a custom-made pectoral implant can be discussed in some cases.

Read the page Poland syndrome
Can Poland syndrome be detected during pregnancy?

Only exceptionally: the anomalies are difficult to see on ultrasound. The diagnosis is made at birth or later, often at puberty in girls.

Read the page Poland syndrome
Are implants always needed to correct tuberous breasts?

No. Implants are only useful if the volume to be added exceeds what fat transfer can provide. In mild forms, releasing the gland, fat transfer and areola reduction are often enough.

Read the page Tuberous breasts
At what age can tuberous breasts be operated on?

Generally from the age of 18, once breast development is complete. Earlier surgery can be discussed if the psychological impact is significant, with parental consent.

Read the page Tuberous breasts
Will I be able to breastfeed after tuberous breast surgery?

Breastfeeding remains possible in most cases, though it cannot be guaranteed. If a pregnancy is planned soon, some patients prefer to wait until they have completed their family.

Read the page Tuberous breasts
Do tuberous breasts get worse over time?

No: the malformation appears at puberty and then stabilises. Pregnancies, changes in weight and age can, however, change the appearance of the breasts.

Read the page Tuberous breasts
Are the scars from tuberous breast surgery visible?

They are placed around the areola and, if a lift is added, vertically below the areola or in the fold. They fade over 12 to 18 months and usually become barely visible.

Read the page Tuberous breasts
Can only one breast be tuberous?

Yes. It is often asymmetrical, sometimes limited to one breast. The more normal breast can then be reduced, lifted or augmented to balance the result.

Anatomical or round breast implant: which should you choose?

Dr Médard de Chardon no longer recommends anatomical implants: those available since 2019, micro-textured, nano-textured or smooth, rotate much more often than the former macrotextured implants. He prefers the round implant, which does not distort the breast if it rotates. On a breast that is already well proportioned, both give the same result in any case.

Read the page Anatomical breast implants
Can an anatomical breast implant rotate?

Yes, this is its main drawback. Because it is not symmetrical, a rotation changes the shape of the breast. The surgeon limits this risk by creating a pocket fitted to the dimensions of the implant, but the risk is much higher with the micro-textured, nano-textured or smooth implants available since 2019.

Read the page Anatomical breast implants
Is an anatomical breast implant useful for a small augmentation?

No. For a small augmentation on a pleasingly shaped breast, round and anatomical implants give the same result; the anatomical implant then adds nothing and carries the risk of rotation.

Read the page Anatomical breast implants
What is the difference between a breast implant that is taller than wide and one that is wider than tall?

The implant that is taller than wide fills the upper breast with a gentle slope; it suits a long chest and breasts set low. The implant that is wider than tall widens the breast while filling the upper part only slightly; it suits a wide chest, a large gap between the breasts and breasts set high.

Read the page Anatomical breast implants
Does an anatomical breast implant give a more natural result?

Its teardrop shape, fuller at the bottom, matches that of most breasts (71.5% of the thesis series). On a breast that is already well proportioned, however, a round implant gives a comparable result.

Read the page Anatomical breast implants
How long does an anatomical breast implant last?

12 to 15 years on average. It is not replaced as a matter of routine: if imaging shows no rupture and the result is still satisfactory, regular monitoring is enough.

Does breast augmentation through the armpit leave a scar on the breast?

No. The only scar, about 3.5 cm long, is hidden in a crease of the armpit; it reaches its final appearance at 12 months.

Read the page Breast augmentation through the endoscopic transaxillary approach
What is the endoscope used for in breast augmentation through the armpit?

It is a camera connected to a screen. It allows the implant pocket to be created under direct vision, with precision, and any bleeding to be controlled, which the blind transaxillary approach does not allow.

Read the page Breast augmentation through the endoscopic transaxillary approach
Can the breast implant be placed in dual plane through the armpit?

Yes. Under the endoscope, the pocket is created behind the pectoralis major muscle or in dual plane, as decided in consultation.

Read the page Breast augmentation through the endoscopic transaxillary approach
Is breast augmentation through the armpit suitable for everyone?

No. It should be avoided if the breasts are slightly sagging with loose skin; another incision is then preferable.

What is Mondor’s disease after breast augmentation?

A cord under the skin running from the armpit scar, appearing a few weeks after the operation. It is benign and disappears in about six weeks, with anti-inflammatory medication and massage.

How can I tell if I have capsular contracture around my breast implant?

The breast becomes firmer than the other one, then hard; the implant takes on a rounded shape and the breast may become tender. An examination by the surgeon allows the contracture to be graded according to the 4 Baker grades.

Read the page Capsular contracture after breast augmentation
Is capsular contracture of a breast implant dangerous?

No, it is an excessive reaction of the membrane surrounding the implant. It is bothersome because of the distortion, the hardness and sometimes the pain in the breast; at grades III and IV, it warrants replacing the implants.

Read the page Capsular contracture after breast augmentation
Is capsular contracture common after breast augmentation?

Not any more: under 1% in the series in Dr Médard de Chardon’s thesis, with silicone gel implants.

Read the page Capsular contracture after breast augmentation
Can capsular contracture be treated without surgery?

At grade II, monitoring, sometimes with massage, is enough. At grades III and IV, only further surgery is effective. Compressing the breast (“squeezing”) is pointless and dangerous.

Read the page Capsular contracture after breast augmentation
Can capsular contracture come back?

It can. Complete removal of the capsule, antibiotic washing of the pocket and, if needed, a change of implant position limit this risk.

Read the page Capsular contracture after breast augmentation
Can polyurethane breast implants still be used?

No, they have been banned in France since April 2019. Women who have them do not need to have them removed as a precaution, but should have their breasts examined every year.

Is Mondor’s disease serious?

No. It is a cord under the skin, bothersome and sometimes painful, which disappears in about six weeks, with no lasting effects.

Read the page Cord under the scar: Mondor’s disease
Is Mondor’s disease a form of phlebitis?

No. This was long believed, but it is a contraction of a thin membrane located under the skin, the fascia superficialis.

Read the page Cord under the scar: Mondor’s disease
When does Mondor’s disease appear?

Usually several weeks after the operation.

Read the page Cord under the scar: Mondor’s disease
Is Mondor’s disease more common after breast augmentation via the armpit?

Yes: it is reported to affect about 10% of breast augmentations via the armpit. It can also occur after an inframammary approach, in the form of vertical cords.

How is Mondor’s disease treated?

With anti-inflammatories as tablets or gel, and massage. It disappears in about six weeks.

How can I tell if I have a double bubble after breast augmentation?

Two creases appear under the breast instead of one: the original fold, which remains marked, and below it the curve of the implant, which has often dropped too low.

Read the page Double bubble after breast augmentation
Why does a double bubble appear after breast augmentation?

Most often because the fold had to be lowered to place the implant and the attachments of the original fold persist. Tuberous breasts, sagging breasts and breasts with a short lower part are the most exposed.

Read the page Double bubble after breast augmentation
Can a double bubble under the breast go away on its own?

No, an established double bubble does not disappear spontaneously; correcting it requires revision surgery.

Read the page Double bubble after breast augmentation
How is a double bubble under the breast corrected?

By rebuilding the fold at the right height: suturing the lower part of the pocket (capsulorrhaphy), possibly with a change of pocket, fat transfer (lipofilling) or acellular dermal matrix, depending on the situation.

Read the page Double bubble after breast augmentation
Can a double bubble be prevented during breast augmentation?

Yes, by avoiding lowering the fold on breasts at risk, by favouring anatomical implants in these cases, and by using an appropriate technique when lowering is necessary.

How many cc of breast implant does it take to go up one cup size?

For a woman of average height and weight, with a chest of normal shape, a 250 cc implant adds about one cup size, and a 300 cc implant about two cup sizes. This is only an estimate: the result varies with each patient’s anatomy (volume of the existing breast, width of the chest, implant profile), which is why measurements and sizers matter.

Read the page How do you choose the size of breast implants?
What is the most common breast implant volume?

In France, most implants used are between 200 and 300 cc. This volume is added to that of the existing breast.

Read the page How do you choose the size of breast implants?
Can I choose the volume of my breast implants myself?

The patient’s wishes are essential, but the volume must remain compatible with her measurements. Sizers, photos of similar cases and the 3-dimensional simulation help bring the two together; a volume unsuited to the patient’s build is declined.

Why avoid too large a breast implant volume?

Too large a volume gives an unnatural result and stretches the tissues: thinning of the breast gland, rippling, early sagging of the breast, and even symmastia or breakdown of the scar.

Read the page How do you choose the size of breast implants?
Can two breast implants of different volumes be used?

Yes, to correct asymmetry of the breasts or of the chest. Fat transfer (lipofilling) can also complete the result on the smaller side.

Read the page How do you choose the size of breast implants?
When is breast volume final after breast augmentation?

The volume is final after about 2 months, once the swelling (oedema) has settled; the shape continues to refine for up to 3 months.

Breast implant behind or in front of the muscle: which should you choose?

It all depends on the thickness of the tissues covering the implant. In a slim patient, the position behind the muscle disguises the implant better in the cleavage; when the tissues are sufficient and the implant small, the position in front of the muscle is possible. Dr Médard de Chardon most often uses the dual plane, which combines the advantages of both.

Read the page Implant behind the muscle (subpectoral)
What is the dual plane in breast augmentation?

It is a variant of the position behind the muscle: the upper part of the implant is covered by the pectoralis major muscle, and the lower part is placed directly under the breast gland. The implant remains disguised in the cleavage and the skin drapes well over it.

Read the page Implant behind the muscle (subpectoral)
What do dual plane I, II and III mean for a breast implant?

The number indicates how far the gland is separated from the muscle: up to the fold under the breast (I), up to the bottom of the areola (II) or up to the top of the areola (III). The more sagging or deflated the breast, the higher the type chosen.

Read the page Implant behind the muscle (subpectoral)
Does the breast implant move when you contract the pectoral muscle?

Yes, in the position behind the muscle, the implant and the breast shift slightly when the pectoralis major muscle contracts. This movement is reduced with the dual plane.

Read the page Implant behind the muscle (subpectoral)
Does the pectoral muscle lose strength with an implant placed behind it?

No. An implant placed behind the muscle does not alter the function of the pectoralis major muscle.

Read the page Implant behind the muscle (subpectoral)
Does placing the breast implant behind the muscle reduce the risk of capsular contracture?

Yes, capsular contracture is less frequent than in front of the muscle, thanks to the constant massage exerted by the muscle and probably to the better blood supply to the pocket.

Breast implant in front of or behind the muscle: which should you choose?

It all depends on the thickness of the tissues covering the implant. When the tissues are sufficient and the implant small, the position in front of the muscle is possible; in a slim patient, the position behind the muscle disguises the implant better. Dr Médard de Chardon most often uses the dual plane, which combines the advantages of both.

Read the page Implant in front of the muscle (prepectoral)
Is a breast implant in front of the muscle more visible?

In a slim patient with thin tissues, yes: the edges of the implant and rippling may show in the cleavage, especially with a large volume. The tissues covering it may also thin over the years.

Read the page Implant in front of the muscle (prepectoral)
Does placing the implant in front of the muscle make the breasts sag?

In the short term, the skin and breast tissue drape very well over the implant. In the medium and long term, however, the breast tends to sag more than with an implant behind the muscle.

Read the page Implant in front of the muscle (prepectoral)
Is the risk of capsular contracture higher with an implant in front of the muscle?

Capsular contracture is thought to be more frequent than behind the muscle, but this is debated. The choice of position rests mainly on the thickness of the tissues and the volume of the implant.

Read the page Implant in front of the muscle (prepectoral)
Does the dual plane have the same advantages as the position in front of the muscle?

Yes, as far as draping is concerned: in the dual plane, the lower part of the implant is placed under the breast gland, as in front of the muscle, while the upper part remains disguised under the muscle. It is the position Dr Médard de Chardon chooses in most cases.

Is it normal to have milk after breast augmentation?

It is rare (about 8 cases per 1,000 augmentations). It means you should see your surgeon, who will arrange tests and prescribe treatment to stop the secretion.

Read the page Milk discharge after breast augmentation: galactorrhoea and galactocele
What is the difference between galactorrhoea and galactocele?

In galactorrhoea, milk flows out through the nipple; in a galactocele, it collects in the breast, around the implant or in small cysts.

Read the page Milk discharge after breast augmentation: galactorrhoea and galactocele
When does a galactocele appear after breast augmentation?

Usually about one month after the operation, as a swollen, inflamed breast.

Read the page Milk discharge after breast augmentation: galactorrhoea and galactocele
Is further surgery needed for a galactocele after breast augmentation?

For a galactocele around the implant, yes: the milk is drained, and the implants are washed and put back in place. Galactorrhoea alone is treated with medication.

Read the page Milk discharge after breast augmentation: galactorrhoea and galactocele
Do the breast implants need to be changed for a galactocele?
Is it normal to have breasts that are different?

Yes. In the series of 200 patients in Dr Médard de Chardon’s thesis, 77% had at least one asymmetry of the breasts or chest before their breast augmentation. Most had not noticed it.

Read the page Minor breast asymmetry and breast augmentation
Does breast augmentation correct asymmetry?

Not always. Asymmetry of volume or of the height of the fold can be corrected during the operation; a difference in nipple height can only be corrected with additional scars. Without correction, the implant can even accentuate a small asymmetry (magnifying effect).

Read the page Minor breast asymmetry and breast augmentation
Can two breast implants of different sizes be used?

Yes, it is the simplest way to correct a volume asymmetry. Fat transfer to the smaller breast is another solution, alone or combined.

Nipples at different heights: what can be done during breast augmentation?

This asymmetry cannot be corrected without additional scars. Dr Médard de Chardon offers it only for a difference of more than 2 cm.

Read the page Minor breast asymmetry and breast augmentation
Is major breast asymmetry treated in the same way?

No. Major asymmetries, such as tuberous breasts or Poland syndrome, require specific management, often in several stages.

Read the page Minor breast asymmetry and breast augmentation
Why can my breast implant be seen or felt?

Because the tissues covering it are thin: a very slim patient, a very small breast, an implant that is too large or placed in front of the muscle. The folds of the shell then become visible or palpable.

Read the page Rippling and visible implants after breast augmentation
Can breast implant rippling appear years later?

Yes, when the tissues thin: a large-volume implant, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or age.

Read the page Rippling and visible implants after breast augmentation
How can breast implant rippling be avoided?

By placing the implant behind the muscle or in a dual plane position when the tissues are thin, and by choosing a reasonable volume, not exceeding 350 cc in a slim patient.

Read the page Rippling and visible implants after breast augmentation
Can fat transfer conceal breast implant rippling?

Yes, injecting fat thickens the tissues covering the implant. It can be done at the time the implants are placed (composite augmentation) or later.

Read the page Rippling and visible implants after breast augmentation
Do breast implants need to be changed if there is rippling?

Not always. A change to implants with more cohesive gel, or a change of pocket to behind the muscle, is offered when the rippling is marked, particularly in the cleavage.

Read the page Rippling and visible implants after breast augmentation
Is breast implant rippling dangerous?

Usually not: the problem is cosmetic. In exceptional cases, very marked folds can damage the implant or thin the tissues to the point of exposing it.

How can I tell if my breast implant has rotated?

The shape of the breast changes: the fullness of the implant, normally at the bottom, moves to the side or to the top. Rotation often goes unnoticed; an examination by the surgeon can confirm it.

Read the page Rotation of anatomical breast implants
Can a round breast implant rotate?

It can turn, but because it is symmetrical, the shape of the breast does not change.

Read the page Rotation of anatomical breast implants
Why does an anatomical breast implant rotate?

Mainly because its pocket is too large, or because of a haematoma, exertion too soon after surgery or capsular contracture.

Read the page Rotation of anatomical breast implants
Can a breast implant that has rotated be put back in place?

Manual repositioning is sometimes possible, but the implant usually rotates again. The definitive treatment is to replace it with a round implant.

Read the page Rotation of anatomical breast implants
How can rotation of a breast implant be avoided?

With a made-to-measure pocket that holds the implant in place, and a period of rest after the operation. A round implant avoids this risk: since micro-textured, nano-textured or smooth anatomical implants rotate much more often, Dr Médard de Chardon no longer recommends them.

Read the page Rotation of anatomical breast implants
Round or anatomical breast implant: which should you choose?

On a breast that is already well proportioned, with a well-placed nipple, both give the same result, and the round implant avoids the risk of rotation. The anatomical implant was used mainly to change the shape of the breast; since the end of macrotextured implants (2019), it rotates much more often, and Dr Médard de Chardon no longer recommends it.

Read the page Round breast implants
Does a round breast implant give an over-rounded cleavage?

Not when the breast already has a little volume: the top of the implant is hidden by the breast tissue and flattened by the pectoralis major muscle, especially in the dual plane position. The choice of profile and volume also matters.

Read the page Round breast implants
What is an ergonomic breast implant?

It is a round implant with a softer gel (made by Motiva): when you stand, it takes on a teardrop shape like an anatomical implant, then becomes round again when you lie down, with no risk of rotation.

Read the page Round breast implants
Are round breast implants suitable for revision surgery?

Yes, they are the most suitable: in secondary surgery, the pocket created by the first implant can no longer hold an anatomical implant stable.

Read the page Round breast implants
How long does a round breast implant last?

12 to 15 years on average. It is not replaced as a matter of routine: if imaging shows no rupture and the result is still satisfactory, regular monitoring is enough.

Face

78 questions
How long before I can be seen in public after face surgery?

0 to 7 days after fat grafting or buccal fat removal, about 10 days after a rhinoplasty, 15 to 21 days after a face and neck lift or a midface lift.

Read the page Face
From what age can face surgery be done?

Otoplasty can be performed from the age of 6, when the child wishes it. Rhinoplasty is possible from 16, genioplasty from 18.

Read the page Face
Are the results of face surgery permanent?

Rhinoplasty, genioplasty and otoplasty give a permanent result. A face and neck lift lasts 4 to 12 years, a blepharoplasty generally more than 10 years; the face then continues to age from that result.

Read the page Face
Can several facial procedures be done at the same time?

Yes, when possible: for example, rhinoplasty and genioplasty (profileplasty), or a temporal lift and filling of the temples. The plan is decided at consultation.

Can cutis verticis gyrata be treated without surgery?

No. Isotretinoin and needle puncture or needle fasciotomy have been tried, without success. Only scalp-lift surgery has proven effective.

Read the page Scalp
Is the result of scalp surgery permanent?

For hairline advancement, yes. In cutis verticis gyrata, surgery smooths out more than 75% of the folds but does not halt the progression of the disease; further excisions remain possible.

Does a blepharoplasty change the shape of the eyes?

No. It removes the excess skin and bags that weigh down the eyes, without changing the shape of the eye. The eyes look more open and rested, but keep their expression.

Read the page Eyelids
Are blepharoplasty scars visible?

Rarely. The upper eyelid scar is hidden in the natural crease of the eyelid and the lower eyelid scar lies 1 mm below the lashes. The transconjunctival approach leaves no visible scar.

Read the page Eyelids
Can under-eye bags be removed without a scar?

Yes, by transconjunctival blepharoplasty: the incision is made inside the eyelid and there are no stitches to remove. It is suitable when the skin of the lower eyelid is not lax.

Does buccal fat removal leave a scar?

No. The 1 to 2 cm incision is made inside the mouth and closed with dissolvable stitches: no scar is visible.

Read the page Buccal fat removal
Is the result of buccal fat removal permanent?

Yes. The result is final at 3 months, once the swelling has gone. The fat removed does not grow back.

Is there a risk of hollow cheeks with age?

No, if the buccal fat pad is only reduced. This is why Dr Médard de Chardon never removes it entirely: these pads naturally shrink with age.

Read the page Buccal fat removal
Can cheek liposuction be done instead?

No. Cheek liposuction would carry a risk of injury to the facial nerve. Reduction of the buccal fat pads, through the inside of the mouth, is the appropriate technique.

Does a facelift change your facial expression?

No. A facelift puts the anatomical structures back in the position they occupied a few years earlier, without changing your features. With the deep plane technique, the tension is placed on the muscle and not on the skin, which avoids a “pulled” look.

Read the page Facelift
What is a deep plane facelift?

It is a face and neck lift technique that re-tightens the deep tissues of the face (the SMAS) rather than the skin. The skin is then redraped without tension. The result is more natural and longer-lasting than a facelift that pulls only on the skin.

Read the page Facelift
How long does the result of a facelift last?

Depending on the quality of the tissues, the result lasts 4 to 12 years after a face and neck lift or a brow lift, and 8 to 12 years after a midface lift. A temporal lift lasts 1 to 4 years and is maintained with botulinum toxin. The face then continues to age, but from a younger starting point.

Can a facelift be done without surgery?

In the early stages of ageing, a non-surgical mini facelift with hyaluronic acid and botulinum toxin injections may be enough. Once the jawline and neck have sagged, only a surgical facelift repositions the tissues for the long term.

Read the page Facelift
Why combine fat injections with a facelift?

Facial ageing combines sagging of the tissues, loss of volume and ageing of the skin surface; a facelift treats only the sagging. Fat grafting (lipostructure), performed during the same operation, restores volume with your own fat. It complements the facelift without replacing it: on a sagging face, large amounts of fat without a facelift give a “puffy” look.

Read the page Fat grafting
Can fat grafting be combined with a facelift?

Yes. Fat grafting is often carried out at the same time as a face and neck lift (cervicofacial facelift) or a blepharoplasty: the facelift corrects the sagging, the fat restores the volumes. The fat is then harvested at the end of the procedure, from the thighs or knees, using micro-cannulas that leave no visible scar.

What is the difference between abdominoplasty and a tummy tuck?

There is none: abdominoplasty, tummy tuck and tummy lift all refer to the same operation, which removes excess skin from the abdomen and tightens the remaining skin.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
Does abdominoplasty make you lose weight?

No. It removes excess skin and slims the abdomen with liposuction, but it is not a way to lose weight. It is ideally done once you have reached your ideal weight and it is stable, as large changes in weight can affect the result.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
Does abdominoplasty remove stretch marks?

It removes the stretch marks below the navel, since all that skin is removed during a high-tension abdominoplasty. Stretch marks higher up are drawn down and tightened, but not removed.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
Does abdominoplasty repair the muscles after pregnancy?

Yes. When the rectus abdominis muscles have separated (diastasis), they are brought together with stitches during the operation, which firms the abdomen. A small hernia can be treated at the same time.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
How should I prepare for an abdominoplasty?

A blood test is carried out, supplemented if necessary by a cardiologist’s opinion. Smoking is stopped at least one month before and one month after the operation; aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements are avoided, as they increase bleeding. A shower with an antiseptic soap is taken the evening before and the morning of the operation.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
Where are the scars from an abdominoplasty?

After a high-tension abdominoplasty, the scar is horizontal, at the very bottom of the abdomen, hidden by underwear or swimwear, with a small scar around the navel. The mini abdominoplasty leaves no scar around the navel. The scars fade over 12 months.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
What precautions should I take after an abdominoplasty?

No heavy lifting for 3 weeks, and no sleeping on your front for 1 month; sleeping on your back or side is fine. The abdominal binder is worn for 1 month, the compression stockings for 15 days, and sport resumes in week 4.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
Is the result of an abdominoplasty permanent?

The result is visible immediately and stable at 3 months. It lasts as long as your weight remains stable and there is no new pregnancy.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
Is a touch-up sometimes needed after an abdominoplasty?

Rarely. A small touch-up may be offered from 3 months onwards to correct an imperfection, for example a small excess of skin or fat at the end of the scar.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
Can I have a child after an abdominoplasty?

Yes, but pregnancy stretches the skin and muscles again and can undo part of the result. This is why it is advisable to wait until you have no further plans for pregnancy before the operation.

Abdominoplasty or liposuction: which should I choose?

Liposuction is enough if the skin is elastic and the muscles are intact. As soon as the skin is stretched or marked with stretch marks, or the muscles have separated, an abdominoplasty is necessary; it then includes liposuction of the flanks.

Read the page Abdominoplasty
Is liposuction enough for arms that wobble?

No. Liposuction removes fat but does not tighten loose skin. It is only enough when the skin is firm, which is mainly the case in younger people.

Read the page Arm lift
Where is the arm lift scar?

Along the inner arm, from the armpit to the elbow. It is visible when the arms are raised and fades gradually up to month 12.

Read the page Arm lift
Why not hide the arm lift scar in the armpit?

A scar limited to the armpit allows only light tightening that does not last long. The benefit is most often insufficient in relation to the scar it creates.

Read the page Arm lift
Do stitches or a drain need to be removed after an arm lift?

No. The stitches are dissolvable and no drain is placed.

Read the page Arm lift
What is the difference between a body lift and an abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty treats only the abdomen. The body lift combines an abdominoplasty, a lift of the outer thighs and a buttock lift, with a scar that runs all the way round the waist.

Read the page Body lift
Do I need to wait after obesity surgery before having a body lift?

Yes. Your weight must have been stable for at least 6 months to obtain the best result.

Read the page Body lift
Where is the body lift scar?

It runs all the way round the waist and stays hidden by swimwear, with a small scar around the navel. It fades gradually up to month 12.

How long is the hospital stay for a body lift?

From 1 to 3 nights at Clinique Oxford in Cannes. The drains are removed on the day you leave.

Read the page Body lift
Can a body lift increase the volume of the buttocks?

Yes. If the buttocks are flat, a flap of skin and fat is reshaped to give them more curve. Fat transfer (lipofilling) can complete the result at a later stage.

Read the page Body lift
What does BBL stand for?

BBL stands for “Brazilian Butt Lift”, the English name for buttock fat transfer: enlargement of the buttocks by injecting the patient’s own fat.

Read the page Brazilian butt lift
How much of the fat injected into the buttocks stays in place?

Between 50 and 70%. This is why the result is slightly overcorrected at first and is judged at 3 months.

Read the page Brazilian butt lift
Is the result of buttock fat transfer permanent?

Yes, the fat that has taken is permanent. It then follows changes in your weight.

Read the page Brazilian butt lift
Is the BBL dangerous?

Its main serious complication, fat embolism, is linked to injection into the muscle. Dr Médard de Chardon injects the fat only under the skin.

Read the page Calf implants
Which implants are used to enlarge the calves?

Cohesive silicone gel implants, placed beneath the fascia of the calf muscles.

What is the difference between liposuction and lipoaspiration?

None: the two words describe the same procedure, which suctions out localised fat with fine cannulas inserted through incisions a few millimetres long. “HD” (high definition) here means vibration-assisted liposuction, which is more even and more precise.

Read the page Liposuction
Is the result of liposuction permanent?

Yes, the fat cells removed do not grow back. The result lasts as long as your weight remains stable; it can be judged between 3 and 6 months.

Read the page Liposuction
Does liposuction leave scars?

The incisions are 2 to 3 mm long and placed in discreet areas. The stitches are dissolvable, under the skin: there are no stitches to remove, and the scars are usually hard to see at 12 months.

Read the page Liposuction
Liposuction or cryolipolysis: which should I choose?

Cryolipolysis treats a small fat deposit without surgery or anaesthesia, with a result at 3 months. Liposuction removes more fat, more precisely, and also treats fibrous fat. The choice is made at the consultation, depending on the amount of fat and the quality of the skin.

Read the page Liposuction
Can the fat suctioned during liposuction be reused?

Yes. Once purified, it can be reinjected during the same operation to shape the buttocks or enlarge the breasts (fat transfer, lipofilling). The choice is made at the consultation.

Where are the scars from a thigh lift?

In the groin crease and along the inner thigh, down to the knee. They fade gradually up to month 12.

Read the page Thigh lift
Why not limit a thigh lift to a scar in the groin crease?

That scar alone allows only a limited correction: the benefit does not justify the scar. Dr Médard de Chardon does not perform this technique.

Can all the fat in the abdomen be removed by liposuction?

No. Only the fat under the skin can be suctioned. The fat surrounding the intestines, inside the abdomen, only decreases with weight loss.

Read the page Abdominal liposuction
Liposuction or abdominoplasty: which should I choose?

It all depends on the skin and muscles. With elastic skin, liposuction is enough. With thin, stretch-marked or slack skin, or with muscles separated after pregnancy, an abdominoplasty is needed.

Read the page Abdominal liposuction
How many scars does abdominal liposuction leave?

Three incisions of 2 to 3 mm for the abdomen, two for the love handles. Closed with a dissolvable stitch under the skin, they usually become undetectable.

Read the page Abdominal liposuction
Why does the abdomen swell after liposuction?

Bowel transit is slowed by the anaesthetic, painkillers and rest, and the treated area is swollen (oedematous). This swelling masks the result and goes down gradually over 3 months.

Read the page Abdominal liposuction
When can I go swimming after abdominal liposuction?

Once the incisions have healed, after 15 days. Showering is possible from the next day.

Can liposuction slim a muscular calf?

No. Liposuction removes the fat beneath the skin, not muscle. If the volume of the calf is mainly muscular, the examination shows this and liposuction is not offered.

Why have a venous examination before leg liposuction?

Thick or swollen legs can be due to venous or lymphatic insufficiency, which liposuction does not treat. The clinical examination, supplemented if necessary by a phlebologist, rules out these causes before the operation is decided on.

Is electrolysis permanent?

A hair whose follicle has been completely destroyed does not grow back. Some treated hairs grow back finer and need to be treated again; this is why a complete treatment requires several sessions.

Read the page Electrolysis
Does electrolysis work on white or blond hairs?

Yes: the current destroys the follicle whatever the colour of the hair. This is its main indication, where the laser has no effect.

Read the page Electrolysis
How many electrolysis sessions are needed?

It depends on the number of hairs: a few sessions for a few isolated hairs, a treatment of 6 to 18 months for a denser area.

Only slightly. A numbing cream is applied 30 to 45 minutes before the session; for sensitive areas, Kalinox can be added.

Read the page Microneedling
How many microneedling sessions are needed?

3 to 4 sessions to prevent ageing, 4 to 6 for acne scars or stretch marks, 4 to 8 weeks apart; then 1 to 2 maintenance sessions a year.

Read the page Microneedling
When can you see the result of microneedling?

From the 2nd or 3rd session; it continues to improve for 6 months after the end of the protocol, while the collagen remodels.

Read the page Microneedling
Can you go straight back to your usual activities after microneedling?

Usually the next day. The skin stays red for 24 to 48 hours; no make-up for 24 hours, no sun for one week.

Read the page Microneedling
Does microneedling treat acne scars?

Yes, it is one of its best indications: depressed scars fade in 4 to 6 sessions.

Read the page Microneedling
What is the difference between microneedling and a dermaroller?

A dermaroller, used at home, has fixed needles that puncture the skin at an angle, at a depth that cannot be adjusted and with imperfect hygiene. The medical pen punctures the skin perpendicularly, at the chosen depth, with sterile single-use tips.

What is nanofat?

A graft of your own fat, emulsified and filtered until it forms a fine liquid, injected just beneath the surface of the skin. It works on skin quality, without creating volume.

Read the page Nanofat
What is the difference between nanofat and lipostructure?

Lipostructure injects small fragments of living fat to restore volume. Nanofat is emulsified fat, without living fat cells, which works on the skin. Both can be performed in the same procedure.

Read the page Nanofat
What is the difference between nanofat and PRP?

PRP is prepared from a blood sample and injected at the practice, in 3 sessions. Nanofat is prepared from your fat, in the operating theatre, most often in a single session. The two can be combined.

Read the page Nanofat
Does nanofat work on dark circles?

It can improve thin, dark skin under the eyes; it does not fill a tear-trough hollow, which is better treated with lipostructure or hyaluronic acid.

Read the page Nanofat
When can you see the result of nanofat?

The result appears gradually within 2 to 3 months; a second session may be offered.

Read the page Nanofat
What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma: part of your blood, concentrated in platelets by centrifugation, then injected into the skin or scalp to stimulate their regeneration.

Read the page PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
Does PRP work for hair loss?

It can slow early hair loss of hormonal origin and thicken weakened hair; it does not regrow hair on an area that has been bald for a long time.

Read the page PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
How many PRP sessions are needed?

Usually 3 sessions 1 month apart, then maintenance; more for hair.

Read the page PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
Is there a risk of allergy with PRP?

No: PRP is prepared from your own blood.

What is a "vampire facial"?

It is the name given to the combination of microneedling and PRP applied to the skin during the session.

Read the page PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
Can you go straight back to your usual activities after a PRP session?

Yes. The small marks from the injection points disappear within a few hours; bruising is possible.

How long does cheek filler last?

8 to 16 months. The product is gradually absorbed; a new session maintains the result.

Read the page Cheek filler
Will the result of cheek filler look natural?

Yes, if the product is placed precisely and in the right quantity: the aim is to restore the contour of the cheek without changing your features. The result is visible immediately.

Read the page Cheek filler
Filler or a lift for the cheeks?

Filler suits a cheek that lacks volume without sagging of the tissues. When the tissues have descended and the nasolabial fold is marked, a midface lift raises them for the long term.

Read the page Cheek filler
Can the tear troughs be treated at the same time as the cheeks?

Yes, tear trough filler is often carried out in the same session: a restored cheek already softens the tear trough valley.

Read the page Cheek filler
Can the result of cheek filler be corrected?

Yes. A touch-up is sometimes needed within the following month, free if there is an imperfection. A result you are not happy with can also be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

Read the page Cheek filler
How long does chin filler last?

8 to 16 months. The product is gradually absorbed; a new session maintains the result.

Read the page Chin filler
Can a receding chin be corrected without surgery?

Yes. Injecting a hyaluronic acid with strong lifting capacity increases the projection of the chin. For a very receding chin or a permanent result, genioplasty or a chin implant should be discussed.

Read the page Chin filler
Why is a touch-up sometimes needed after chin filler?

The tissues of the chin are thick and can flatten part of the gel. A touch-up from day 10 then completes the result; it is free of charge if there is an imperfection.

Read the page Chin filler
Can the nose and lips be treated at the same time as the chin?

Yes. In a non-surgical profileplasty, the chin, lips and nose are injected in the same session to harmonise the profile.

Read the page Chin filler
Can chin filler be reversed?

Yes. A result you are not happy with can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

Read the page Chin filler
How long does hand filler last?

12 to 18 months with hyaluronic acid or Radiesse, which are resorbable. Micro-fat grafting gives a permanent result.

Read the page Hand filler
Will the veins on my hands be less visible after hand filler?

Yes: by restoring volume under the skin, the injection reduces the visibility of veins and tendons. Micro-fat grafting is particularly effective for this.

Read the page Hand filler
Hyaluronic acid or Radiesse for the hands?

Both restore volume to the backs of the hands, at the practice, with a cannula, for a comparable length of time. The choice is made at the consultation according to the thickness of the skin and the result you are looking for.

Read the page Hand filler
Can I return to my activities straight after hand filler?

Yes. You can resume your social life immediately; slight swelling or bruising may last a few days.

Read the page Hand filler
Can brown spots on the hands also be treated?

Yes, with pigment laser, TCA peel or cryotherapy, alone or combined with injections.

Read the page Hand filler
How long does jawline filler last?

12 to 18 months for hyaluronic acid and 2 to 6 months for Botox. A new session maintains the result, often with less product.

Read the page Jawline filler
Can jawline filler replace a facelift?

No, not when sagging is marked. It corrects early sagging of the jawline; when the jowls are pronounced and the neck is loose, only a face and neck lift tightens the tissues for the long term.

Read the page Jawline filler
What is the Nefertiti lift?

It is a Botox injection into the bands of the neck muscle (platysma) and along the jaw. This muscle, which pulls the lower face downwards, is put at rest: the jawline rises slightly and the neck looks more defined.

Read the page Jawline filler
Can Botox slim the jaw?

Yes, when the lower face is widened by bulky masseter muscles. Injections into these muscles slim the jaw, but the sessions need to be repeated.

Read the page Jawline filler
Can I return to my activities straight after jawline filler?

Yes. You are only advised to avoid strong heat and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours.

Read the page Jawline filler
Can jawline filler be reversed?

Yes for hyaluronic acid: a result you are not happy with can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. The effect of Botox, for its part, fades on its own within a few months.

Read the page Jawline filler
How long does lip filler last?

The effect lasts 6 to 12 months. The product is gradually absorbed; maintenance sessions require smaller doses.

Read the page Lip filler
Will the result of lip filler look natural?

Yes, if the dose and the area are suited to the face. The outline can be redefined without inflating the lips, or the lips plumped slightly; the quantity ranges from 0.2 to more than 1 cc.

Read the page Lip filler
Can the result of lip filler be corrected?

Yes. A touch-up is possible from day 7, free if there is an imperfection. A result you are not happy with can also be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

How long does a non-surgical mini facelift last?

The result lasts 8 to 16 months. It is maintained with one hyaluronic acid session a year and two Botox sessions a year.

Read the page Non-surgical mini facelift (filler lift)
Does the non-surgical mini facelift replace a facelift?

No, not when sagging is marked. It is suitable for the early stages of ageing; when the jowls are pronounced and the neck is loose, only a facelift tightens the tissues for the long term.

Read the page Non-surgical mini facelift (filler lift)
Is the result of a non-surgical mini facelift natural?

Yes. Volume is restored where it has been lost, without freezing the face; Botox is limited to the muscles that pull downwards.

Can I return to my activities straight after a non-surgical mini facelift?

Most often, yes. Slight swelling may last 2 to 3 days; social downtime does not exceed 72 hours.

What is a "full face" injection?

It is another name for the non-surgical mini facelift: the face is treated as a whole, in one session, rather than one area in isolation.

What is Profhilo?

A highly concentrated injectable hyaluronic acid from IBSA laboratories, not chemically cross-linked. It hydrates the skin deeply and firms it, without creating volume.

Read the page Profhilo
What is the difference between Profhilo and a standard skin booster?

Profhilo is more concentrated and more fluid: it is injected at 5 points on each side and spreads on its own, whereas a standard skin booster requires many micro-injections. It is aimed mainly at early skin laxity.

Read the page Profhilo
Does Profhilo add volume?

No. It improves the quality and firmness of the skin; for a hollow, a hyaluronic acid filler is used.

Read the page Profhilo
How many Profhilo sessions are needed?

Two sessions 6 weeks apart, then a maintenance session about every 6 months.

Read the page Profhilo
Are the small bumps after a Profhilo injection normal?

Yes. They correspond to the injected product and disappear within a few hours, within 24 hours at the latest, once it has spread through the skin.

Read the page Profhilo
How long does the result of Profhilo last?

About 6 months after the two sessions; maintenance sessions prolong it.

What is a skin booster?

An injectable hyaluronic acid, free, lightly cross-linked or not cross-linked, which deeply hydrates and firms the skin. Unlike filler gels, it does not create volume.

Read the page Skin boosters
How long does the effect of a skin booster last?

About 6 months, after two sessions 6 weeks apart. It is then maintained with a new session when the effect fades.

Read the page Skin boosters
Do skin boosters fill wrinkles?

They smooth fine lines by hydrating and firming the skin, but they do not fill deep wrinkles or hollows: that is the role of volumising hyaluronic acid filler.

Read the page Skin boosters
What is the difference between a skin booster and a mesolift?

A mesolift injects a more fluid, superficial solution of free hyaluronic acid, vitamins and trace elements, in 3 to 4 sessions a year. A skin booster, which is denser, is injected more deeply, in two sessions 6 weeks apart. The two can be combined.

Read the page Skin boosters
Can the tear troughs be treated with a skin booster?

No. In the tear troughs, the gel attracts water and can leave swelling in the form of bags. Tear troughs are treated with a suitable hyaluronic acid filler.

Read the page Skin boosters
Can I return to my activities straight after a skin booster?

Yes. There is no social downtime; the small injection marks disappear within 24 to 48 hours.

How long does tear trough filler last?

1 to 3 years: the duration is excellent in this area, which moves little. The product is gradually absorbed; a new session maintains the result.

Read the page Tear trough filler
Does tear trough filler get rid of dark circles?

It fills the hollow and softens the shadow that darkens the area. It has almost no effect on a true pigmentation of the skin, which only certain lasers or chemical peels sometimes improve.

Read the page Tear trough filler
Filler or blepharoplasty for tear troughs?

Filler fills a hollow tear trough, with no social downtime. Blepharoplasty permanently removes true bags and excess skin, which an injection cannot do; the two are often combined.

Read the page Tear trough filler
Can I return to my activities straight after tear trough filler?

Yes, there is no social downtime. Slight swelling lasts 3 to 4 days and any bruise can be hidden with make-up.

Can the result of tear trough filler be corrected?

Yes. A touch-up is possible within the following month, free if there is an imperfection. A result you are not happy with can also be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

How long does temple filler last?

8 to 16 months. The product is gradually absorbed; a new session maintains the result.

Read the page Temple filler
Why have the temples injected?

Hollow temples make the bony contours around the eye stand out and give a tired look. Filling them softens these contours and rejuvenates the eyes, often more than you might expect.

Read the page Temple filler
Is temple filler visible?

No, if the injection plane is appropriate: the product is placed deep, against the bone, or near the surface with a fluid gel. Any bruise can be hidden under the hair.

Can other areas be treated at the same time as the temples?

Yes: the tear troughs, cheekbones or cheeks are often treated in the same session, and Botox for crow’s feet can complement the result.
