Hyaluronic acid filler restores hollow temples. Temples become hollow with age and give the face a “skeletal” look, with bony contours around the eye that are too prominent. The treatment is carried out at the practice in Cannes, in about 15 minutes, after an anaesthetic cream combined with ice, using a cannula or a needle, with no social downtime. The result is immediate, final in 3 to 4 days, and lasts 8 to 16 months.
Price: from €350 per syringe; the consultation before the injection is free.
Why do the temples become hollow?
With age, the temporal muscle and the fat of the temple shrink: the temple becomes hollow, and the bony contours of the temporal ridge and the rim of the eye socket stand out more. The face takes on a tired, “skeletal” look. The temples are a less well-known indication than other areas of the face, but filling them is an effective way to rejuvenate the eyes.
To restore the harmony of the face, tear trough, cheekbone or cheek filler is sometimes carried out at the same time.
Why are the temples a demanding area?
An injection placed too deep is sometimes not very effective; conversely, an injection placed too superficially can be visible if the skin is thin. The temple is also crossed by arteries and veins, which must be carefully avoided. The choice of injection plane and of product therefore determines the result.

Hyaluronic acid or micro-fat grafting?
| Hyaluronic acid | Micro-fat grafting (micro-lipostructure) | |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Resorbable gel, most often Restylane | The patient’s own fat |
| Setting | Practice | Operating theatre (Clinique Oxford) |
| Social downtime | None | 0 to 7 days |
| Duration of result | 8 to 16 months | Long-lasting once the graft has taken |
| Price | From €350 per syringe | €1,500 to €4,000 (facial fat grafting) |
Micro-fat grafting of the temples is most often carried out during another surgical procedure, but it can also be done on its own.
Which products are used?
Hyaluronic acid is the most widely used product: CE-marked gels, Restylane (Galderma) or Juvéderm (Allergan), more fluid ones for a superficial injection and more volumising ones for a deep injection.
Needle or cannula?
Both, depending on the plane: the cannula for a superficial injection of a fluid product, the needle for a deep injection, behind the temporal muscle and against the bone. Particular care is taken to avoid the arteries and veins; the product is then massaged to even it out. See needle or cannula on the hyaluronic acid page.
Before: hollow temples, prominent bony contours around the eye.
Is temple filler painful?
Very little: an anaesthetic cream prepares the skin and applying ice completes the anaesthesia. A slight bruise may appear; it is easily hidden under the hair.
How does a temple filler treatment work?
- ConsultationFree before the injection, at the practice, 101 rue d’Antibes in Cannes: a detailed analysis of your face and an overall treatment plan, discussed with you. It may combine filling the temples, correcting a drooping eyebrow with a temporal lift, treating crow’s feet with Botox and improving skin quality with a mesolift or skin booster.
- SessionAt the practice, in about 15 minutes: skin disinfection, anaesthetic cream and ice, injection with a cannula or needle, then massage.
- Touch-upSometimes needed within the following month, free of charge if there is an imperfection.
What is the recovery like?
- Result: the filling of the hollow is visible immediately.
- Social life: you can return to your personal and professional activities straight away, with no social downtime.
- Bruising: sometimes a slight bruise, easy to hide under the hair.
- Slight swelling for 2 to 4 days.
- Final result in 3 to 4 days.
- Duration of effect: 8 to 16 months.
Where will you be?
14 days after the session
What are the risks?
The most common side effects are temporary bruising and swelling. More rarely: small irregularities or visible product if the skin is thin, asymmetry, an inflammatory reaction or infection. In exceptional cases, the product can block a blood vessel; this is an emergency, treated by injecting hyaluronidase, which dissolves hyaluronic acid and can also be used to correct a result you are not happy with.
Contraindications: pregnancy and breastfeeding, an active skin infection in the area, certain autoimmune diseases.
Choosing a qualified, experienced and reputable surgeon reduces these risks, and can even eliminate some of them.

Frequently asked questions about temple filler
How long does temple filler last?
8 to 16 months. The product is gradually absorbed; a new session maintains the result.
Why have the temples injected?
Hollow temples make the bony contours around the eye stand out and give a tired look. Filling them softens these contours and rejuvenates the eyes, often more than you might expect.
Is temple filler visible?
No, if the injection plane is appropriate: the product is placed deep, against the bone, or near the surface with a fluid gel. Any bruise can be hidden under the hair.
Is temple filler painful?
Very little: the anaesthetic cream combined with ice makes the session very bearable.
Can other areas be treated at the same time as the temples?
Yes: the tear troughs, cheekbones or cheeks are often treated in the same session, and Botox for crow’s feet can complement the result.
Can the result of temple filler be corrected?
Yes. A touch-up is sometimes needed within the following month, free of charge if there is an imperfection. A result you are not happy with can also be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
