With age, the jawline loses its definition: jowls appear and the boundary between the face and the neck fades. Hyaluronic acid, injected along the angle of the jaw and into the chin, redefines the jawline and tightens the tissues; Botox, in the neck muscle or the masseters, completes the effect. The session lasts about 15 minutes at the practice in Cannes, under anaesthetic cream, with no social downtime. The effect of hyaluronic acid is immediate and lasts 12 to 18 months; that of Botox appears within 3 to 7 days and lasts 2 to 6 months.
Price: €550 to €1,100 for hyaluronic acid; Botox for the neck €420, for the masseters €300; the consultation before the injection is free.
Why does the jawline sag?
Over time, the lower third of the face changes: the jawline loses its definition, jowls appear and the skin of the neck becomes loose. The profile loses its sharpness and the features look tired. The treatment is for women and men alike who have:
- a loss of definition of the jawline: the boundary between the face and the neck becomes blurred;
- early jowls: fat and skin slide down on either side of the chin;
- a receding chin (retrogenia), which accentuates the sagging of the neck: see chin filler;
- neck bands (platysma muscle) that pull the lower face downwards;
- bulky masseter muscles, which widen the lower face.
In men, the treatment also defines the angle of the jaw, for a squarer jawline.

Filler is suitable for early sagging. When the jowls are more pronounced and the neck looser, it is no longer enough: a face and neck lift is then indicated.
Which products are used?
- Volumising hyaluronic acid: a highly cross-linked, dense gel with strong lifting capacity, which acts as an invisible support and restores the bony and fatty framework. CE-marked gels, Restylane (Galderma) or Juvéderm (Allergan), containing lidocaine.
- Botox (botulinum toxin), for its relaxing effect on muscles: in the muscles that pull the lower face downwards (the “Nefertiti lift”), or in the masseters to slim the jaw.
How is the injection carried out?
The session begins with an analysis of your face at rest and in movement, to identify the injection points.
- Hyaluronic acid is injected deep, often against the bone, with a micro-cannula (less bruising, greater safety) or a fine needle for the anchor points. It is placed along the angle of the jaw, in front of the jowl and in the chin: it recreates a tension that tightens the tissues and softens the jowl. Marionette lines can be filled in the same session.
- Botox is injected superficially into the bands of the platysma muscle, in the neck and along the edge of the jaw. With this muscle at rest, the muscles that lift the face act more strongly: the jawline rises slightly. In the masseters, it slims the lower face.
See needle or cannula on the hyaluronic acid page.
Before, in profile: blunted angle of the jaw, jowl, loose neck.
Is jawline filler painful?
Not very: an anaesthetic cream is applied before the session, the gel contains lidocaine and the micro-cannula limits the number of entry points.
How does a jawline filler treatment work?
- ConsultationFree before the injection, at the practice, 101 rue d’Antibes in Cannes: analysis of your face at rest and in movement (jawline, jowls, chin, neck, masseters), choice of products and areas; if the sagging calls for a facelift, Dr Médard de Chardon will tell you.
- SessionAt the practice, in about 15 minutes: anaesthetic cream, injection of hyaluronic acid with a cannula or needle, then Botox if needed.
- Touch-upSometimes needed within the following month, free of charge if there is an imperfection.
What is the recovery like?
- Social life: immediate return to normal activities; redness, slight swelling or occasional bruising at the injection points fade within a few days and can be covered with make-up.
- For 24 to 48 hours: avoid strong heat (sauna, hammam, sun) and intense exercise; do not massage the treated areas vigorously.
- Hyaluronic acid: immediate result, optimal within 8 to 15 days; it lasts 12 to 18 months.
- Botox: effect visible between day 3 and day 7, optimal at 2 weeks; it lasts 2 to 6 months.
- Maintenance: a new injection, often with less product than at the first session.
Where will you be?
14 days after the session
What are the risks?
The most common side effects are temporary swelling and bruising. More rarely: small irregularities or nodules, asymmetry, an inflammatory reaction or infection. In exceptional cases, the gel can block a blood vessel; this is an emergency, treated with hyaluronidase, which dissolves hyaluronic acid and can also be used to correct a result you are not happy with. Botox can cause a passing headache and, rarely, asymmetry or temporary difficulty swallowing or chewing when the neck or masseters are treated.
Contraindications: pregnancy and breastfeeding, an active skin infection in the area, certain autoimmune diseases; for Botox, certain neuromuscular diseases.
Choosing a qualified, experienced and reputable surgeon reduces these risks, and can even eliminate some of them.

Frequently asked questions about jawline filler
How long does jawline filler last?
12 to 18 months for hyaluronic acid and 2 to 6 months for Botox. A new session maintains the result, often with less product.
Can jawline filler replace a facelift?
No, not when sagging is marked. It corrects early sagging of the jawline; when the jowls are pronounced and the neck is loose, only a face and neck lift tightens the tissues for the long term.
What is the Nefertiti lift?
It is a Botox injection into the bands of the neck muscle (platysma) and along the jaw. This muscle, which pulls the lower face downwards, is put at rest: the jawline rises slightly and the neck looks more defined.
Can Botox slim the jaw?
Yes, when the lower face is widened by bulky masseter muscles. Injections into these muscles slim the jaw, but the sessions need to be repeated.
Can I return to my activities straight after jawline filler?
Yes. You are only advised to avoid strong heat and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours.
Can jawline filler be reversed?
Yes for hyaluronic acid: a result you are not happy with can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. The effect of Botox, for its part, fades on its own within a few months.
How much does jawline filler cost in Cannes?
€550 to €1,100 for hyaluronic acid, depending on the number of syringes; €420 for Botox for the neck and €300 for the masseters. The consultation before the injection is free.
