Hyaluronic acid filler restores volume and contour to cheeks that have flattened with age or are naturally not very prominent; it produces a lifting effect on the midface and softens the tear trough valley. It is carried out at the practice in Cannes, in about 15 minutes, after an anaesthetic cream combined with ice, with a needle or a cannula, with no social downtime. The result is immediate, final in 3 to 4 days, and lasts 8 to 16 months.

Price: from €350 per syringe; the consultation before the injection is free.

Who is it for?

The best indication is a cheek that lacks volume without real sagging of the tissues: precisely placed filler plumps the cheek and gives a lifting effect. Tear trough filler is often carried out at the same time.

When the tissues have descended, with a marked nasolabial fold and satisfactory overall volume, the best option is to lift them with a midface lift.

Micro-lipostructure is particularly useful when a lift is planned at the same time; it can also be carried out on its own. About 60% of the injected fat takes in this area: a slight overcorrection makes it possible to obtain a final result in a single session.

Which products are used?

CE-marked hyaluronic acids, Restylane (Galderma) or Juvéderm (Allergan): more or less cohesive, fluid or volumising depending on the shape of the cheek and the result you want. Collagen stimulators, which stimulate tissue production, are an alternative when the tissues are young.

Needle or cannula?

The injection is placed in the different layers of the midface depending on the result you want, with a needle or a cannula: the needle for precise placement against the bone, which projects the cheekbone; the cannula for the more superficial layers, with less bruising. See needle or cannula on the hyaluronic acid page.

Before: flattened cheeks, marked tear trough valley and folds.

Is cheek filler painful?

Very little: an anaesthetic cream prepares the skin and applying ice completes the anaesthesia. A slight bruise may appear; it is easily hidden with make-up.

How does a cheek filler treatment work?

  1. ConsultationFree before the injection, at the practice, 101 rue d’Antibes in Cannes: analysis of the midface (volume, sagging, tear troughs), choice of technique, product and number of syringes; if a midface lift would be more suitable, Dr Médard de Chardon will tell you.
  2. SessionAt the practice, in about 15 minutes, after the anaesthetic cream and ice; injection with a needle or cannula.
  3. Touch-upSometimes needed within the following month, free if there is an imperfection.

What is the recovery like?

  • A natural result, visible immediately.
  • Slight swelling for 2 to 4 days, which slightly overcorrects the result at first.
  • Bruising, not systematic, for a few days.
  • Social life: no social downtime.
  • Final result in 3 to 4 days.
  • Duration of effect: 8 to 16 months; the result is not permanent.

What are the risks?

The most common side effects are temporary bruising and swelling. More rarely: small irregularities or nodules, asymmetry, an inflammatory reaction or infection. In exceptional cases, the product can block a blood vessel; this is an emergency, treated by injecting hyaluronidase, which dissolves hyaluronic acid and can also be used to correct a result you are not happy with.

Contraindications: pregnancy and breastfeeding, an active skin infection in the area, certain autoimmune diseases.

Choosing a qualified, experienced and reputable surgeon reduces these risks, and can even eliminate some of them.

Frequently asked questions about cheek filler

How long does cheek filler last?

8 to 16 months. The product is gradually absorbed; a new session maintains the result.

Will the result of cheek filler look natural?

Yes, if the product is placed precisely and in the right quantity: the aim is to restore the contour of the cheek without changing your features. The result is visible immediately.

Filler or a lift for the cheeks?

Filler suits a cheek that lacks volume without sagging of the tissues. When the tissues have descended and the nasolabial fold is marked, a midface lift raises them for the long term.

Can the tear troughs be treated at the same time as the cheeks?

Yes, tear trough filler is often carried out in the same session: a restored cheek already softens the tear trough valley.

Is cheek filler painful?

Very little: the anaesthetic cream combined with ice makes the session very bearable.

Can the result of cheek filler be corrected?

Yes. A touch-up is sometimes needed within the following month, free if there is an imperfection. A result you are not happy with can also be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

How much does cheek filler cost in Cannes?

From €350 per syringe, depending on the number of syringes set at the consultation. The consultation before the injection is free.
