Aesthetic medicine or surgery?

Injections correct without an incision and, most often, without social downtime, but their effect is temporary: 2 to 6 months for Botox, 8 to 24 months for hyaluronic acid. Surgery provides a lasting correction of sagging or of a shape: a face and neck lift (cervicofacial facelift) lasts 4 to 12 years. As a plastic surgeon, Dr Médard de Chardon offers surgery when an injection is not enough, and often combines the two. See facial surgery and the article Botox or hyaluronic acid: what are the differences?.

Dr Médard de Chardon’s experience in aesthetic medicine

  • Qualified plastic surgeon in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery; university diploma (DU) in injection and filler techniques (Université Paris VIII);
  • more than 18,000 injections performed, including more than 12,000 filler injections and more than 7,000 Botox injections;
  • practising in Cannes since 2011; member of SOFCEP (French Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), SOFCPRE (French Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery) and ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery).

Who carries out the treatments?

Dr Médard de Chardon performs filler, Botox and collagen stimulator injections, and nanofat in the operating theatre of Clinique Oxford. Marlène, a state-registered nurse on the team, carries out light chemical peels, mesolift and cryolipolysis; at the Silkeen centre, laser hair removal is carried out by a trained nurse, and electrolysis by Marlène. Frequently asked questions

How much does an aesthetic medicine injection cost?

From €250 for Botox and €350 per syringe of hyaluronic acid; €1,500 to €2,500 for a non-surgical mini facelift. The consultation before an injection is free.

Are cosmetic injections reimbursed?

No. Cosmetic injections are not reimbursed by French national health insurance (Assurance Maladie).

How long do the effects of cosmetic injections last?

2 to 6 months for Botox, 8 to 24 months for hyaluronic acid, about 6 months for a skin booster or Profhilo, 12 months to 2 years for collagen stimulators.

Are cosmetic injections painful?

Depending on the treatment, no anaesthesia is needed, or an anaesthetic cream is applied before the session.

Can I return to my activities straight after a cosmetic injection?

Yes, in most cases: most treatments involve no social downtime. Allow 24 to 48 hours after microneedling, up to 72 hours after a non-surgical mini facelift, 5 to 7 days after nanofat and up to 8 days after certain chemical peels.

Botox or hyaluronic acid: what is the difference?

Botox relaxes the muscles that deepen expression lines; hyaluronic acid fills wrinkles and restores volume. The two are often combined, for example in the non-surgical mini facelift.

What happens if the result of an injection is not perfect?

After a hyaluronic acid injection, the touch-up is free if there is an imperfection.

Where do aesthetic medicine sessions take place?

At the practice, 101 rue d’Antibes in Cannes, Monday to Friday; laser hair removal and electrolysis at the Silkeen centre, at the same address; nanofat in the operating theatre of Clinique Oxford.
