Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally present in the skin, which attracts and holds water. Injected as a gel, it fills wrinkles and folds, restores or creates volume (lips, cheeks, chin, jawline) and hydrates the skin. The injection is carried out at the practice in Cannes, in 15 to 45 minutes, with an anaesthetic cream or local anaesthesia, with no social downtime. The result is immediate, final in 3 to 4 days, and lasts 8 to 24 months; the product is resorbable.

Price: from €350 per syringe; the consultation before the injection is free.

All areas

Sixteen areas of the face where hyaluronic acid can be injected. Tap an area to show it on its own.

A hollow upper eyelid is not treated by blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), which would make the hollow-eyed appearance worse, but by a hyaluronic acid injection or by facial fat grafting (lipostructure). At an advanced stage of sagging, the jawline calls for a face and neck lift (cervicofacial facelift).

Hyaluronic acid is also used to hydrate the skin (mesolift) or to tone it (skin booster).

From what age?

  • To rejuvenate the face: generally from 30 to 35.
  • To enhance a natural feature (thin lips, underdeveloped cheekbones, hollow tear troughs): earlier, at any adult age.

Needle or cannula?

The cannula is flexible with a rounded tip: it does not cut the tissue. It allows an area to be treated from a single entry point, with less bruising and less pain. Some patients nevertheless prefer the feel of the needle, and the cannula is sometimes unsuitable for certain areas. The choice is made area by area. With a needle, the gel can be injected into the epidermis, the dermis or the fatty tissue; with a cannula, injection is only possible into the fatty tissue.

  1. 1Fine needle with a sharp tip: several injection points; injection possible into the epidermis, dermis or fatty tissue
  2. 2Straight cannula with a blunt tip: a single entry point, the area treated in a fan pattern; injection possible only into the fatty tissue

How does an injection work?

  1. ConsultationFree before the injection, at the practice, 101 rue d’Antibes in Cannes: examination of the face, choice of areas and number of syringes, written quote.
  2. SessionAt the practice, in 15 to 45 minutes, after an anaesthetic cream or local anaesthesia; injection with a needle or cannula, using CE-marked products whose efficacy and tolerance have been assessed.
  3. Touch-upSometimes needed within the following month: free if there is an imperfection.

What is the recovery like?

  • Pain: the injection is only slightly painful.
  • Bruising: not systematic, mild and short-lived (a few days).
  • Slight swelling for 2 to 4 days, which slightly overcorrects the result at first.
  • Social life: no social downtime.
  • Immediate result, final in 3 to 4 days.
  • Duration of effect: 8 to 24 months, depending on the cross-linking of the product, the area, skin type, age and lifestyle. Injections are repeated on average once a year.

What are the risks?

The most common side effects are temporary bruising and swelling. More rarely: small irregularities or nodules, an inflammatory reaction or infection. In exceptional cases, the product can block a blood vessel; this is an emergency, treated by injecting hyaluronidase, an enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronidase can also be used to correct a result you are not happy with.

Contraindications: pregnancy and breastfeeding, an active skin infection in the area, certain autoimmune diseases.

Choosing a qualified, experienced and reputable surgeon reduces these risks, and can even eliminate some of them.

Optimising the result

For harmonious rejuvenation, hyaluronic acid can be combined with other techniques: Botox and chemical peels in aesthetic medicine; a facelift, eyelid surgery or facial fat grafting (lipostructure) in surgery. Combining Botox and hyaluronic acid forms a non-surgical mini facelift (€1,500 to €2,500).

Frequently asked questions about hyaluronic acid

How long does a hyaluronic acid filler last?

The effect lasts 8 to 24 months depending on the product, the area treated, skin type, age and lifestyle. The product is gradually absorbed; injections are repeated on average once a year.

Is a hyaluronic acid injection painful?

It is only slightly painful: an anaesthetic cream or local anaesthesia is used, and most products contain an anaesthetic. The cannula further limits pain and bruising.

Hyaluronic acid or Botox: which should I choose?

Botox relaxes the muscles responsible for expression lines (forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet). Hyaluronic acid fills established lines and restores volume. The two are often combined.

Can I return to my activities straight after a hyaluronic acid injection?

Yes, there is no social downtime. Slight swelling may last 2 to 4 days, and bruising, which does not always occur, a few days.

Is hyaluronic acid dangerous?

It is a resorbable product that is very well tolerated. Serious complications are exceptional; they must be treated without delay, in particular with hyaluronidase.

How much do hyaluronic acid fillers cost in Cannes?

From €350 for one syringe. Some areas have a fixed price: lips, nose or chin €350, tear troughs €350 to €550, jawline €550 to €1,100. The consultation before the injection is free.
