Hyaluronic acid filler changes the shape of the chin without surgery: it brings forward a receding chin, lengthens a short chin, widens a chin that is too narrow and fills the groove under the lip or the marionette lines. It is carried out at the practice in Cannes, in about 15 minutes, after an anaesthetic cream and ice, with no social downtime. The result is immediate, final in 3 to 4 days, and lasts 8 to 16 months.

Price: €350; the consultation before the injection is free.

Which chins can be corrected with filler?

Any unattractive feature of the chin may be suitable for filler:

  • The receding chin: filler increases the projection of the chin (retrogenia).
  • The short chin: it increases the height of a small chin.
  • The narrow chin: it widens a chin that is too narrow.
  • The labiomental groove: the hollow or line between the lower lip and the chin is filled.
  • Marionette lines: the fold between the jowl and the chin, caused by sagging tissue, is filled for a rejuvenated look.
  • An imperfection after genioplasty (chin surgery) or a chin implant can also be corrected.

Filler also lets you try out a new chin before considering surgery. At the consultation, a computer simulation shows the possible result.

Which products are used?

Hyaluronic acid is the best product for reshaping a chin: it must have a strong lifting capacity to resist the thick tissues of the chin, which tend to flatten the gel. CE-marked gels, Restylane (Galderma) or Juvéderm (Allergan), containing lidocaine.

Lipofilling (fat transfer) is not a good option for bringing a chin forward, as its lifting power is low. A skin booster sometimes smooths the skin of the chin, and Botox reduces the orange-peel appearance that shows when you speak.

Needle or cannula?

The injection is given with a needle or a cannula, in different planes, more or less deep depending on the area of the chin. See needle or cannula on the hyaluronic acid page.

In a non-surgical profileplasty, chin filler is often combined in the same session with lip filler and a non-surgical rhinoplasty, to restore the harmony of the profile.

Before, in profile: receding chin.

Is chin filler painful?

No, when a few rules are followed: anaesthetic cream and ice, local anaesthesia of the mental nerve if needed, a product containing lidocaine, and a precise, slow injection.

How does a chin filler treatment work?

  1. ConsultationFree before the injection, at the practice, 101 rue d’Antibes in Cannes: analysis of the profile and face, computer simulation of the possible result, choice of areas and product; if a genioplasty or an implant would suit you better, Dr Médard de Chardon will tell you.
  2. SessionAt the practice, in about 15 minutes, after the anaesthetic cream and ice; injection with a needle or cannula.
  3. Touch-upPossible from day 10, free of charge if there is an imperfection: the thick tissues of the chin can flatten part of the gel.

What is the recovery like?

  • Result visible immediately, slightly over-corrected for a few days by mild swelling (oedema).
  • Bruising is rare.
  • Social life: most often no social downtime.
  • Final result in 3 to 4 days.
  • Touch-up possible from day 10.
  • Duration of effect: 8 to 16 months.

What are the risks?

The most common side effects are temporary swelling and, more rarely, bruising. Even more rarely: small irregularities or nodules, asymmetry, an inflammatory reaction or infection. In exceptional cases, the product can block a blood vessel; this is an emergency, treated by injecting hyaluronidase, which dissolves hyaluronic acid and can also be used to correct a result you are not happy with.

Contraindications: pregnancy and breastfeeding, an active skin infection in the area, certain autoimmune diseases.

Choosing a qualified, experienced and reputable surgeon reduces these risks, and can even eliminate some of them.

Frequently asked questions about chin filler

How long does chin filler last?

8 to 16 months. The product is gradually absorbed; a new session maintains the result.

Can a receding chin be corrected without surgery?

Yes. Injecting a hyaluronic acid with strong lifting capacity increases the projection of the chin. For a very receding chin or a permanent result, genioplasty or a chin implant should be discussed.

Why is a touch-up sometimes needed after chin filler?

The tissues of the chin are thick and can flatten part of the gel. A touch-up from day 10 then completes the result; it is free of charge if there is an imperfection.

Is chin filler painful?

No: anaesthetic cream, ice, a product containing lidocaine and, if needed, local anaesthesia of the mental nerve make the session very bearable.

Can the nose and lips be treated at the same time as the chin?

Yes. In a non-surgical profileplasty, the chin, lips and nose are injected in the same session to harmonise the profile.

Can chin filler be reversed?

Yes. A result you are not happy with can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

How much does chin filler cost in Cannes?

€350. The consultation before the injection is free.
