At Dr Médard de Chardon’s practice in Cannes, a rhinoplasty costs €6,000 to €10,000. This price includes the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees and the fees of the Clinique Oxford; it is set on a written quote after a consultation at €100. It varies mainly with the complexity of the nose: first operation or revision, cartilage grafts, work on breathing. Cosmetic rhinoplasty is not reimbursed; the functional part may be covered by French national health insurance (Assurance Maladie), subject to prior approval.

Price: €6,000 to €10,000, on a written quote after consultation (€100).

2. What does the price include?

The quote for a rhinoplasty covers three items: the surgeon’s fees, for the operation and follow-up; the anaesthetist’s fees; and the fees of the Clinique Oxford in Cannes (operating theatre, equipment, day-surgery stay or one-night stay).

Rhinoplasty quotesample layout, no amounts
  • Surgeon’s feesOperation and follow-upIncluded
  • Anaesthetist’s feesGeneral anaesthesiaIncluded
  • Clinique Oxford feesOperating theatre, equipment, day surgery or one nightIncluded
Total€6,000 to €10,000

Not included: medication for the recovery period, blood tests, anaesthetic consultation. Follow-up consultations are free of charge.

3. What makes the price vary?

  • The complexity of the nose: a small hump does not require the same work as a nose that is deviated, wide and has a drooping tip.
  • Cartilage grafts: taken from the septum, the ear or a rib, they lengthen the operation; they are common in revision rhinoplasty.
  • Work on breathing: straightening the septum, reducing the turbinates or opening the valves; this part may then be covered.
  • The length of the operation and anaesthesia, from 1.5 to 3 hours.
  • The hospital stay: day surgery or one night at the clinic.

The technique makes no difference: ultrasound, used whenever work on the bones is needed, involves no extra charge (see ultrasonic or traditional rhinoplasty).

4. Is rhinoplasty reimbursed?

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is not. However, the Assurance Maladie may cover, subject to prior approval:

  • the functional part: a deviated septum (septoplasty), enlarged turbinates (turbinoplasty), nasal valves that close on breathing in;
  • the after-effects of a broken nose or of a malformation, such as a cleft lip and palate.

The surgeon sends the request for prior approval to the Assurance Maladie’s medical adviser before the operation. Dr Médard de Chardon practises in Sector 2 (fees above the national health insurance rate), not OPTAM-registered: additional fees of €500 to €5,000 apply to the covered part; they are stated on the quote, and your mutuelle (top-up health insurance) may reimburse part of them, depending on your policy. When a rhinoplasty corrects both shape and breathing (rhinoseptoplasty), only the cosmetic part remains entirely at your expense.

5. The quote and the cooling-off period

After the consultation, you receive a detailed written quote: planned procedures, surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees, clinic fees, place of the operation, period of validity. The law requires a cooling-off period of at least 15 days between the handing over of the quote and the operation (article L.6322-2 of the French Public Health Code). The quote comes with the SOFCPRE (French Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery) information sheet and the informed consent form.

6. How do you compare two quotes?

A price can only be compared for the same service. When looking at a quote, check:

  • that the surgeon is qualified in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery (directory of the Ordre des médecins, the French medical council);
  • that the quote includes anaesthesia and clinic fees, not just the surgeon’s fees;
  • that the operation takes place in a facility authorised for cosmetic surgery;
  • what is planned for follow-up and for any touch-up;
  • that you will be able to reach the surgeon during your recovery, including if you live far away.

7. Payment

Payment can be made by cheque, bank transfer, bank card or cryptocurrency (bitcoin and ethereum). Payment in instalments is possible.

Frequently asked questions

Why such a gap between €6,000 and €10,000?

The price depends on the work needed: a nose that only requires lowering a hump does not take the same time or involve the same complexity as a deviated nose that has to be rebuilt with cartilage grafts. The exact amount is set on a written quote, after the nose has been examined in consultation.

Is rhinoplasty reimbursed by the French social security system?

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is not. The functional part (septum, turbinates, valves) and the after-effects of a fracture or malformation may be covered by the Assurance Maladie, subject to prior approval; additional fees of €500 to €5,000 may still apply.

Does the price include anaesthesia and the clinic?

Yes: the range of €6,000 to €10,000 includes the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees and the fees of the Clinique Oxford in Cannes.

Is a touch-up charged?

A touch-up of your rhinoplasty, carried out within the following year, costs €0 to €500. A revision rhinoplasty, for a nose operated on elsewhere or a more extensive re-operation, costs €6,000 to €10,000.

Is there a less expensive option?

For a small hump, a hollow or a slight asymmetry, non-surgical rhinoplasty by hyaluronic acid injection costs from €350. It does not make a nose smaller, and its result lasts 8 to 12 months.

Does ultrasonic rhinoplasty cost more?

No: ultrasound is used whenever work on the bones is needed, at no extra charge.
