According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) survey for 2025, plastic surgeons performed more than 35 million cosmetic procedures worldwide: 17.9 million surgical procedures and 17.3 million non-surgical procedures. The United States comes first (5.5 million procedures), ahead of Brazil, the leading country for surgery (2.4 million operations), and China. France is 11th, with 714,945 procedures. Worldwide, eyelid surgery is the most frequently performed operation; in France, it is breast augmentation.

Which countries perform the most cosmetic surgery?
The ranking below is based on the total number of cosmetic procedures, surgical and non-surgical (injections, peels, hair removal…), performed by plastic surgeons in 2025. The top ten countries account for nearly two thirds of procedures worldwide; the United States alone performs 15.5% of them, France 2%.

Two profiles emerge: Brazil, Mexico, Turkey and India mainly perform surgery; the United States, Japan, Germany and Italy mainly non-surgical procedures. In France, the two are roughly equal.

France ranks 11th, with 714,945 cosmetic procedures performed by plastic surgeons in 2025: 340,725 surgical procedures and 374,220 non-surgical procedures. ISAPS estimates the number of plastic surgeons there at 1,050.

What sets France apart is the prominence of the breast: three of the five most frequently performed procedures concern the breasts, and breast reduction comes 3rd. In aesthetic medicine, botulinum toxin injections (164,325, 10th in the world) and hyaluronic acid injections (133,875, 9th in the world) alone account for eight out of ten non-surgical procedures.

In men, the most frequently performed surgical procedures are eyelid surgery (548,407), gynaecomastia (282,954) and rhinoplasty (247,477).
How should these figures be read?
- They are estimates. ISAPS surveyed around 17,000 plastic surgeons; 2,900 responded. The figures for each country are extrapolated from these responses and from the estimated number of practising plastic surgeons (around 60,400 worldwide).
- Only procedures performed by plastic surgeons are counted. Injections or laser treatments carried out by other doctors (aesthetic doctors, dermatologists) are not included: non-surgical procedures are therefore underestimated.
- The ranking depends on which countries are detailed. 51 countries and territories are detailed this year, compared with 32 the previous year. Countries such as Russia, Canada and the United Arab Emirates are not among them and do not appear in the ranking.
- Year-on-year comparisons are unreliable, because the list of countries and procedures changes from one survey to the next.
